Sports in Heredia

As in the rest of Costa Rica, sports are an important part of the culture in Heredia. So much so that the municipal government has designated a special committee dedicated to sports & recreation in the area, and it shows with the proliferation of sports and activities like chess, running, basketball, boxing, weight lifting, taekwondo, judo, karate, table tennis, swimming, and indoor soccer. These programs are offered for youth and adults. The municipality has further plans to develop dedicated sports complex to accommodate the vast participation in these programs.

Futbol (don't call it soccer)

In Costa Rica, futbol is by far, the most watched and played sport, and there's no exception in Heredia. From their multitude of neighborhood fields that are always occupied, to the indoor soccer courts, all the way up to their beloved professional soccer league team, Club Sport Herediano, futbol is always at a fever pitch in Heredia, despite the fact that haven't won a national soccer championship since 1993.

Golf

Costa Rica offers only a handful of areas that cater to golf enthusiasts, and Herdia offers 2 of them...

The Cariari Country Club: A championship caliber, 18 hole course in the Central Valley. This course is tough, but the caddies and spectacular mountain vistas make it worth while.

The Marriott Hotel in Heredia: A beautiful complex, only moments from the air port and down town with a challenging 18 hole golf course to go along with 4 star accommodations.
